There are two types of IP addresses: IPv4 (e.g. 216.58.217.206) and IPv6 (e.g. 0:0:0:0:0:ffff:d83a:d9ce). IPv6 was developed due to the internet growing so fast that essentially, we were running out of numbers. IPv6 has allowed us to keep expanding, and new IP addresses can be assigned.
